Overview

The Emergency Technician 1 & 2 provides the highest quality standards of care for patients in the Emergency Department in accordance with the organization’s mission, philosophy, policies and procedure and within the scope of this job description. This position does not directly supervise any other caregivers.

Responsibilities

Recognizes, reports, and records observations and care provided.

 

Functions as an unlicensed assistive care provider under the direction and supervision of Registered Nursing.

 

Performs tasks in which competency has been demonstrated as delegated by the Registered Nurse.

 

Provides patient care hygiene as needed.

 

Stocks unit, transports patients, and assists in keeping the unit clean and free of clutter.

 

Cleans equipment and helps identify need for maintenance, when appropriate, and ensures rental equipment is returned to agency of ownership.  

 

Participates in creating a healing environment that supports all aspects of the care environment and the wholeness of each individual, patient and caregiver.

 

Participates in creating intentional relationships and demonstrates focused attitudes and behaviors that enhance the care experience.

 

Provides a therapeutic presence in service to others by purposefully responding to the needs of patients in a caring way, including introducing oneself and explaining role in patient’s care, asking the patient his or her preferred name, sitting with the patient to determine his or her care goals, active listening, and communicating effectively and appropriately through touch, eye contact, etc.

 

Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.

 

Documents all patient care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory agencies.

 

Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.  Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, supporting the organization’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violations of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all company investigations and proceedings.

 

Delivers customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate.

 

Qualifications

ED Tech 1:

Education: 

High school graduate or GED equivalent required. 

Must be willing to take additional courses as required for the position.

 

Licensure/Certification/Registration: 

Current Licensure/Certification as a CNA II or EMT preferred.

AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification required.

Must be Code Grey certified within 6 months of hire.

 

Experience: 

One-year experience as a CNA, EMT or Military Corpsman and/or Military Medic, strongly preferred.

Nursing students will be considered if currently enrolled in an accredited RN program and have completed 2 clinical semesters in the program.

Previous experience working with the public, problem solving, and community agencies and resources strongly preferred.  

ED Tech 2:

Education: 

High school graduate or GED equivalent required. 

Must be willing to take additional courses as required for the position.

 

Licensure/Certification/Registration: 

Current Licensure/Certification as a CNA II or EMT required.

AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification required.

Must be Code Grey certified within 6 months of hire.

 

Experience: 

One year experience as a CNA, EMT or Military Corpsman and/or Military Medic required.

Previous experience working with the public, problem solving, and community agencies and resources strongly preferred.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely

 

Skills:

General:

Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population and professionally represent SCHS 

Ability to multi-task and work independtly 

Attention to detail

Strong team working and collaborative skills

Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication and customer service skills, particularly in dealing with stressful, fast paced environment

Demonstrated ability and experience in computer applications, use of electronic medical record keeping systems and MS Office

Physical Requirements

Category: Patient Care Level #3

Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, keyboard operation, use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.

Frequently (50%): Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1-25 pounds. The use and operation of a motor vehicle for Home Health and Wound Caregivers.

Occasionally (25%): Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, climbing ladder/step-stool (varies by area), reaching overhead, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds, grasping/squeezing, ability to hear whispered speech level.

Rarely (10%): Climbing stairs.

Never (0%): Climbing ladder/step-stool (varies by area), operation of a motor vehicle.

Exposure to Elemental Factors

Rarely (10%): Wet/slippery area, chemical solution.

Never (0%): Heat, cold, noise, dust, vibration, uneven surface.
